The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Frustration Over Sizing Changes

Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.

The second-hand shopping app has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.

Online Platforms Backlash

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.

The platform stated the new system was more in line with other platforms.

They have suggested members to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.

Size Classification Modifications

Earlier, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.

With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

User Stories

Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as size 20–22.

"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.

Required Changes

Another shopper, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she stated.

Platform Context

The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
